Citrine pendants are a sunnier shade of quartz
Citrine pendants are made of a precious stone that is unlike any other. People refer to citrine pendants by many other names, such as citrine topaz, gold topaz and Spanish topaz. Citrine pendants are not made of topaz, though; they are actually a version of quartz that takes on a yellow hue. Citrine pendants do not look so yellow when they are still in their natural stone form. The precious stone has an amber tone, but when it is cut into shapes for citrine earrings, citrine gold rings and other pieces, it becomes the yellow stone people are familiar with. The real precious stone known as citrine is fairly hard to find in nature, but they are reproduced in laboratories by warming up other quartz stones such as amethyst.
Citrine earrings made this way, for example, will give away its identity by revealing a more orange or reddish color. Most of the natural citrine pendants and citrine gold rings are made from stones mined in Brazil. Citrine is the birthstone of November, which makes sense because of it s earthy tones. It shares the month with brown topaz, though. Citrine earrings are generally much less expensive than brown topaz earrings, so they are often the birthstone of choice.
The precious stone wears extremely well, and it has a hardness of about seven on the Mohs scale. Citrine pendants should, however, be removed when performing any heavy labor or doing chores like washing dishes. Citrine pendants and earrings are often measured in millimeter rather than carats. A precious stone with a diameter of 6.5 millimeters is comparable to about one-carat. One carat citrine gold rings can range in price dramatically, though the stone itself usually costs under $100.
The more expensive precious stone jewelry is made from what's called natural citrine, which has not been heated from other quartz stones. Citrine pendants have been popular in modern western societies since the 1930s, when excavations in Brazil and Uruguay were abundant. Ladies citrine gold rings, citrine earrings and other antique jewelry from the 1930s can still be found in abundance today.
People have even used the precious stone for buttons and cuff links. Citrine pendants are associated with light-heartedness, self-confidence, and self-esteem. The colors of citrine pendants are also thought to be a natural cure to depression in some alternative medicines. Since citrine is so similar to topaz, it is not uncommon to see citrine earrings substituted for topaz earrings without the jeweler telling the customer. Since topaz is a much more expensive precious stone than topaz, it is important to verify with the merchant. Regardless of the price, though, citrine gold rings, earrings and pendants are beautiful and great for gift-giving. People can also purchase loose pieces of the precious stone to make their own jewelry pieces. It is popular for its golden hues, because they reflect the sunlight so well.
