Properties Of White Gold
The combination of gold and other white metals such as silver, nickel, platinum and palladium, results in white gold, which can be 18kt, 14kt, 8kt or any other karat, the same as yellow gold. A full 75 percent of gold mixed with 25 percent of other materials such as silver and palladium represents 18kt white gold. This type of gold has white undertones, which is why it is known as white gold.
Depending on the actual metals which are used in and the proportions they are used in, the properties of white gold normally vary. This actually means that, for many particular purposes, white gold alloys can be custom made. Very hard and strong alloys that use nickel combined with gold can actually be successfully used for rings and pins. White alloys using palladium are quite a bit softer, and are more flexible, so they can be well used for setting a gemstone. It is also important to mention that the actual color of white gold is grey, but because it is treated with metal rhodium it appears to be white.
There are different types of white gold jewelry available on the market, including pins, brooches, chains, necklace, bracelets and rings. This type of gold is actually very easy to find. White gold wedding bands and engagement rings are also gaining popularity day by day. This type of metal is very special and quite popular worldwide.
