The Story Behind Rose Gold
Most people, when they hear the word "gold", have the traditional, yellow one, in mind. But, in fact, there's more than just one color and this is because jewelers usually add alloy metals to strengthen the gold, and this changes its color.
One example of this is rose gold jewelry, which is not very popular today, so lots of people don't even know it exists because you don't see much of it. It's called that way because of the slight pink hue it has because of the copper added to the pure gold. This special color is precisely what rose gold jewelry was created for: the warm tint was very popular with women some time ago. This rose gold jewelry was particularly appreciated in Russia in the 19th century, which is why it's also sometimes called Russian gold. Copper having a strong color, jewelers only use a small amount of it when mixing it with pure gold in order to get the pink hue. This is why rose gold jewelry is quite pure and high quality: the highest quality it can have is 22 karats, but you'll usually find it in 18k or 14k. You should also know that rose gold jewelry can have a bit of silver added as well, to make it stronger and to create a better color. As already mentioned, rose gold jewelry was quite popular in the 19th and early 20th century, and now it has become quite uncommon. What women prefer nowadays is the so-called white gold, which has platinum or zinc added to it. However, rose gold jewelry is still produced nowadays, so you can still find it if you want to get a really special piece of jewelry.
