Popular Cuts Of Ring Diamonds
While there is little doubt that diamond rings will always be a popular gift, the cut of the ring diamonds make a huge difference to the ladies who wear them. There are many different cuts that diamonds come in today, including the round cut and princess cut, and variations such as the rose cut. The different cuts that ring diamonds come in are a personal choice, so prior to buying a ring for someone it's a good idea to get a feel for what they like best.
The round cut, or round brilliant, is probably the most popular cut for ring diamonds. This cut was developed around 1900, and they have remained the safest choice because their shape is universally desired. Round cut ring diamonds are the easiest to sell, and are insured for the highest value. Princess cut ring diamonds are the second most popular shape, and they accentuate the gem's fire rather than its luster. The top of the diamond is cut into a square shape, and the overall shape of the gem ends of looking similar to a pyramid. Rose cut ring diamonds are a popular variation, which was originally developed in the 16th century by combing two different cuts. The basic rose cut has a flat base and a crown made of triangle-shaped facets in a symmetrical arrangement that end in a point. Rose cut ring diamonds are usually circular, but there are variations such as oval-shaped briolette diamonds, the hexagonal Antwerp rose, and double-Dutch rose diamonds that look like two rose cuts back to back. There are many other cuts that ring diamonds come in, but these are probably the most popular at the moment.
