Wearing The Coat Of Arms On Your Finger
Signet rings haven't really changed their designs over the years. Almost all signet rings carry the coat of arms with precious stone set o either side of the emblem.
Signet rings have been in existence since the medieval times. They are otherwise also referred to as seal rings. Most signet rings are used liked a stamp to indicate the position and title of the sender. When used on documents they are considered the signature of the individual. For the longest time Signet rings symbolized nobility. In Europe, signet rings are designed with the coat of arms and precious stone set on either side of the emblem. The symbol is usually engraved in intaglio. Many times, signet rings are made of agate, especially sardonyx or carnelian. Metal signet rings are also available. These are made of 22 karat gold or sterling silver. Usually, metal signet rings are a lot less expensive than the agate signet rings. Signet rings are usually worn on the small finger or fifth finger of nobles on either left or right hand. However, some countries place their signet rings on the ring finger, specifically on the right hand such as the Swiss nobles. People from Germany and France wear their signet rings on their ring finger of their left hand. Individuals from the United Kingdom always wear signet rings on their left hand. Their rings are always cast out of 22 karat gold.
